Welcome to my Installing Linux Site. With Microsoft no longer supporting many computers (even some new ones), Linux might be something someone would want to consider. There are a number of reasons to switch from Windows to Linux. You can read my WTF Windows 11 site to learn why you may not want Windows 11 even if your computer can support it. This site will go into detail on what to look, and how to install Linux. I will be assuming that you would want to replace Windows. Windows Updates in the past has been known to brick the boot record therefore making your Linux OS? no longer accessible.
Since there are so many varieties of Linux, there is no one OS I can tell everyone to acquire. For example, Puppy Linux can run on minimal hardware that may be a couple of decades old, whereas any new computer should be able to handle the most demanding tasks of a high end Linux installation. You would also want to consider price. Almost all Linux versions I seen are free, although I have found Zorin which charges $50 for their professional version. Their professional version includes email installation support, and will install a wide range of applications – all of which can be installed for free. You would want to weigh your options.
